Hallo my dear followers ![]()
You may have been wondering where the loudly announced opinion leader project would stay. Now the time has come to finally start opinion leading!
The Project:
As I mentioned in this recent post, I was asked to participate in a so called “opinion-leader-project”. I am really glad to have the opportunity to test new products, that are not yet on the market and to write about them whatever I want.
The products are from L’Oréal. And as you will see, they are three hair products.
The Products:
All of the products are from the new line of “StudioLine Spurenlos FX” (free translation: StudioLine Traceless Effects). They are supposed to not leave any traces of gel, paste or creme in the hair.

StudioLine SpurenlosFX Bändigende Creme:
According to its description this creme tames intractable hair and helps to create a natural and lively look (and of course doesn’t leave any traces of the cream).
Price: 3,95 €
StudioLine SpurenlosFX Styling Gel-Creme:
What we have here is not a gel, not a cream, not an airplane… it is a “Gel-Creme”. It has a “creamy texture” but should fix like a hair gel. It is suppose to tame rebelic hair zones and give you a disciplined look (if you put it all over your hair). Of course it still gives you a “natural hair-feeling”.
Price: 2,95 €
StudioLine SpurenlosFX Strubbel-Effekt Paste:
This novel paste is supposed to be very abundant and should take care of the ultimative tousled-look.
Price: 3,95€
The Test Part 1/2:
First impression:
Couldn’t really figure out, if these products are especially made for men or if this is a unisex product. The guy on the front of the description, the packaging and the smell confused me.
The packaging is colored in a bright green (I guess women would have a fruit describing this colour) and white. I wouldn’t call this a “manly” green, what made me think, that it could also be used by women. I mean, women nowadays often have short hair and/ or like to walk around like men.
In contrast to that a man, who I didn’t know to this moment, smiled from the cover of the description. So maybe it is a product only for men?
But then I opened the packages and smelled on the stuff. It did not smell bad, actually I like the smell. But it was more like a smell I would rather smell on a woman than on a man.
I then decided not to worry about who the product is for.
I then read my way through the description/ manual. That’s where I read, that this man smiling at me is supposed to be famous. Well, you can not know everything but still I was wondering if somebody actually knew him and if I am the only person who doesn’t care about who this guy is. So I decided to make a quick survey:
The Survey:
Since I am studying in an international environment it was clear to me, that I have to ask people from all over the world to gain as much different views on this topic as possible. Still the sample should have a 50% quote of Germans (since the product is being released in Germany). Daniela (Germany), Lidier (Mexiko), Max (Usbekistan), Philip (Germany), Susanne (Germany) and Todor (Bulgaria) were so kind and participated in my spontanious survey. Thank you so much for your help, guys!
I not only asked questions concerning Patrick Dempsey but also about hair products and their usage in general and about their opinion about L’Oréal. You can consider this survey as an unrepresentativ but not unimportant survey for L’Oréal. In my opinion it covers a lot of informations a company like L’Oréal should be aware of.
So, turns out that none of the men know Patrick Dempsey and most of the men do not care who the man is promoting the products. The Girls liked him (Surprise, surprise…).
The Test Part 2/2:
Now I will state my opinion about the products. You have to know, that I never have been using any hair products from L’Oréal before.
StudioLine SpurenlosFX Bändigende Creme:
At the beginning of the test my hair was really long and did not really do what I wanted. So I tried to get it under control with this taming cream. I have never used such hair cream and wasn’t quite sure if I am using it right. Anyways, I put it in my hair and the result was actually pretty good: It was easier to use and to arrange than I expected and the often promoted “natural look” really applied. Also very good was the smell, which did not disappear even over a long day. Plus girls (or at least my girlfriend) like the smell
. And as the product name is saying, there are no traces of this stuff like I experienced with hair gels.
In my view the price of 3,95 € is too high. But this is just a feeling I have, maybe it is worth it. I can not really estimate for how long this package would last.
StudioLine SpurenlosFX Styling Gel-Creme:
I often use hair gel and don’t really have a brand that I buy very often. I am experimenting a lot. Fun thing that I have never come across a L’Oréal product. The only guess I can make is that the price may have always scared me off.
After being at the hairdresser I tried this gel. Maybe my hair was too short, but I wasn’t satisfied with the result of it. Couldn’t really get my hair the way I wanted to. Possible reason could be, that the gel-creme only had strength 2 (on a scale up to 5). Again: nice smell and no traces –> good!
The price of 2,95 € is reasonable and still within the realms of possibility.
StudioLine SpurenlosFX Strubbel-Effekt Paste:
My favourite product! Really liked to work with this paste. It is strong but still arrangable even after the hair is dry. It is absolutely not hard but gives a nice look. I did not make use of the tousled-look (strubbel-look) because it doesn’t really fit me but I could easily arrange my usual style. What I absolutely liked here, was that the natural look definetly applied. Absolutely no gluing of the hair. I would have never bought this product because first of all I always was using gel and second of all the price is too high for me. I will have to check out how long this lasts. Maybe it is worth its 3,95 €.
Conclusion:
All three Products are not bad and keep what they promise. But the only thing I would buy is the StudioLine SpurenlosFX Strubbel-Effekt Paste. For the other products I have on the one hand no use (StudioLine SpurenlosFX Bändigende Creme) and on the other hand was not fully convinced (StudioLine SpurenlosFX Styling Gel-Creme).
You should try them if you are on the search for an easy to apply product which gives you a natural look. If not stick to whatever you are using.
Thanks and Bye:
First of all thank you L’Oréal and VICO for letting me participate in this opinion-leader-project.
Furthermore I would like to thank my survey participants. It was a great pleasure and big fun interviewing you! Maybe I have the chance to review a new beer/vodka or something like that. Then you are all invited to test it with me
So stay tuned and keep following me here or on twitter!
Have a nice weekend,
Tobias Köhler
