if you want to get idea of what twitter is, where it is going (or if it is going anywhere) you should have look at this discussion on cnn (via @mashable/Pete Chashmore from mashable.com):
in my opinion they focussed too much on the chitchat, that is in fact being pubished through twitter. but I feel (as it was also briefly mentioned) it is much more about the fast exchange of informations between experts and of course between experts and people who want to learn about current issues.
those people who actively search for informations on twitter are not satisfied with the superficial and out-dated informations on plattforms like wikipedia (that’s my guess, didn’t do a survey on it or something). of course there’s google but you will never find the latest published article/blog post/… in the top 10 results on a specific topic with only one phrase.
Twitter offers a much faster supply of rich in content informations or at least tells you where to find it.
my hope is, that more people will find their way to twitter to share their knowledge or their sources of knowledge.
As you may have noticed I changed the theme of my blog. I like the minimalistic and non destracting new design. This also fits well to my idea of how a blog or website should look like: structured and well arranged. This also applies for the adminsitration interface of the new installed Wordpress 2.7.1, I really like working with that.
Another new feature on tobias-koehler.com is the twitter ticker on the right side. Yes, i twitter! Never thought I would because I could not imagine that anybody would care reading that I am eating, drinking or cleaning up right now. BUT: Twitter is not only about posting what you are doing right now, it is more about exchanging rich in content informations about all the (professional) topics you can think of.
I never found that much valuable and above all recent informations in such a short time. Forget Google! The good thing at twitter is, that you only have 140 charakters to put into a “tweed”. Means: Concentrate on the important information you want to deliver or ask for, find the key words and use or search for them. Since there are (mostly) real people posting their “tweeds” it was most of the times the exact information I was searching for. Google can not (yet) understand a question I am asking or finds too much that is not really related to what I am really searching for (although the search words appear somewhere in the found website).
We had a short talk about twitter in our e-commerce lecture last week, where I more or less said what I wrote here. And look at this: one week later our professor told us, that he made the same experience as I described it: Twitter is a very useful tool to find, deliver and exchange recent informations. Too bad, he is not that of an active twitterer…
The blog reconstructioning and conceptional desining don’t really make big progress. I Don’t have that much time for it… too occupied with twitter No, seriously I don’t really have much time these days and this is not going to be better. Today we got our assignment for the project management group work: Develop an innovative CSR (Corporate Social Responsability) strategy for Apple.
Sounds like a very interessting task. According to our professor “CSR is the hot thing at the moment”. That’s why she wants to do a sabbatical next semester to research and work on that topic. Hope we can help her with our work
So if anybody of you out there has some interessting informations, links or ideas feel free to contact me.
I want to close this post with the subtle hint to todays added “mix of the week” (archive). One of my favourite tracks of The Whitest Boy Alive is on it. Also recommendable: The Futureheads.
